Press Release: Canon USA Inc. to Switch to Nikon

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., February 11, 2010 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leading provider of office imaging systems, ink-jet technology and digital photography, today announced their decision to sell all remaining Canon inventory and switch to Nikon. The decision came amidst a growing number of reports of photographers selling all of their Canon photography gear and switching to Nikon.

Resumindo: A Canon anunciou sua decisão de vender todo seu estoque e migrar para a Nikon. Segundo a Canon, tal decisão deve-se ao fato do crescente número de fotógrafos que estão vendendo seu equipamento Canon e passando a utilizar os da Nikon.

A decadência da Canon iniciou-se, como já é sabido, com o fracasso da 1D MkIII e a insatisfação com o sistema de AF da 5D MkII, que não foi melhorado em relação à velha 5D MkI.

O CEO da Canon agradece à Nikon, por ter produzido a D3 e  D700 as quais puderam servir adequadamente a seus antigos clientes.

Encurtando distâncias

Desde que entrei no mundo dos sensores FF senti falta de distâncias focais maiores, mas agora isso não será mais problema.

Sexta à noite o Rodrigo e eu fomos até Blumenau pegar a nikkor 70-200 f/2.8G VR com o fotógrafo e figuraça Eduardo Guilhon, de Floripa.

Devido às chuvas de sábado, pude testá-la somente no domingo. Como todos os domingos, este também estava se arrastando. Então pedi  auxílio à Tati, que pacientemente se dispôs a me ajudar a testar a objetiva. Abaixo algumas fotos que fizemos ontem à tarde.

Splash

Probably everyone has seen rain droplets falling on the surface of a puddle and appreciated that . However, how many of us could see the droplet shape change in details? The high speed photography open a new world for us, because allow us to appreciate these events, where the time is measured in milliseconds or less.

É provável que vc já tenha apreciado o espetáculo que é uma gota de chuva caindo em uma poça d’água. Mas quantos de nós pudemos perceber em detalhes o formato e a deformação desta gota em tão ínfimo momento? A fotografia de alta velocidade nos abre esse novo mundo, onde o tempo é medido em milisegundos, ou menos.

Bokeh

Bokeh from japanese, means something as “blur”.  It’s a word used in photography to refer a aesthetic carachteristics of the out focus areas of a photography. That carachteristic depends of lens and of the aperture used.

The bokeh is especially important to large aperture lens, macro lens and telephoto lens, because they’re usually used with small Depht of Field (DOF). The term DOF is many times misused and it can really make the people confused. The bokeh is a qualitative and subjective term, whereas Depht of Field is quantitative measurement.

Bokeh é um termo japonês que pode ser traduzido como “borrado”. É utilizado em fotografia para se referir às áreas fora de foco em uma fotografia. Característica esta dependente da objetiva.

O Bokeh é especialmente importante para objetivas de grande abertura (f/2.8 ou mais), objetivas para macro, e teleobjetivas, pois estas são geralmente usadas com DOF curto.

O termo DOF, do inglês Depht of Field, é vulgarmente utilizado para se referir ao bokeh. Contudo, tal utilização é errônea.  O bokeh não se refere ao quanto determinado plano está fora de foco, mas às características qualitativas e subjetivas deste plano “borrado”.  Ou seja, existem bokehs bonitos e bokehs feios.

Leave me by myself

Today was a boring like day. Every sunday is a boring day for me.

And today, as ever, I didn’t do anything interesting and the day was finishing in a couple of hours. At 8 pm, I thought: “Why not now”. And I finally decided to make a self-portrait. Yes, that’s me.

Just a play shot

I took this shot during a tour, yesterday.  I was looking for a high key shot and I got it. But, I missed the composition.
And if you to ask me “why Did you do that?”, I’d answer: “I don’t know, maybe I’m losing my mind…” or “I should pay more attention to what I’m doing”.
I guess that I was wondering about light ratios and flash power and I didn’t pay attention to framing…I could figure it out, but it’s just a play shot and it isn’t all bad.
